Counterfeiting

What is conterfeiting?

Counterfeiting is the forgery of high security documents such as banknotes, where an effort is made by the counterfeiter to take something original and forge it into a copy of the original.

A counterfeiter is therefore someone who makes copies illegally, whilst trying to pass them off as legal.

What should you do if you think you have a counterfeit note?

Firstly, try not to handle the note any further with your bare hands. Take it to your nearest police station and report the case, or take it to your local bank.

Remember, that should you suspect that a note is counterfeit, that you do have the right not to accept such a note. But the best way to protect yourself is to know the security features on your banknotes. They are really easy to check, and it will take only a moment to familiarize yourself with them. Please play your part in keeping your money safe!
