The South African Bank Note Company (Pty) Ltd (SABN) was initially established on 21 May 1958 by the South African Reserve Bank (SARB). This was done in partnership with Bradbury Wilkinson, a British company which provided the necessary technical expertise and seconded key personnel required to assist with the birth and growth of SABN.
It took some time to make SABN independently operational, and the first locally manufactured South African banknotes were printed only five years later, in 1963. |
