SABN recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. In half a century the company has grown to become one of the most technologically advanced banknote security printers in Africa, and competes with the best in the world. With its widely acknowledged quality standard and reputation for service excellence, SABN has repeatedly expanded its operation and now also prints currency for a number of other countries.

In 2005, SABN played an integral part in the development and design of South Africa's upgraded series of banknotes. In the same year, as recognition for its dedication to service excellence, SABN was awarded the prestigious ISO 9001: 2000 certification.

Since then, SABN has also been certified as a Preferred Polymer Printer (PPP), the only one of its kind in Africa.

SABN is a fully-owned subsidiary of the SARB, which is the Central Bank of South Africa; it is also a sister company to the South African Mint, the country’s producer of coins.
